Unexplained Death at WalMart
WSB News
By Jon Lewis
Dunwoody Police are investigating after a man died while being detained for allegedly shoplifting at the Wal-Mart on Ashford-Dunwoody Road around 12:45 Saturday afternoon. Sgt. Mike Carlson tells WSB when a loss prevention officer tried to stop 38-year-old Marty Bridges, a fight broke out.
"During this altercation, the suspect went limp. They rolled him over and he had low breathing and a low pulse. Two other bystanders came by and started to administer CPR," said Carlson.
He was taken to Northside Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Carlson says Bridges was not pepper-sprayed, but did hit his head on the concrete outside.
"It appears that he hit his nose on the concrete; but at that time, he was still fighting. It was later on where the fight moved outside into the walkway where he ended up losing consciousness," said Carlson.
An autopsy has been completed, but the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office is still awaiting several test results, including toxicology reports.
