The Kroger Co. announced today it has reached a tentative agreement on a new
contract with the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 1059 in
Columbus, Ohio.
The tentative agreement covers more than 11,000 Kroger
associates who work in 87 stores in and around Columbus.
The UFCW will present the fully-recommended tentative
agreement to its members for ratification during several meetings scheduled
for Friday, Aug. 15 at various locations. Details of the tentative agreement
are not being released pending ratification.
"Both Local 1059 and Kroger came together and worked hard to
reach an agreement that provides quality jobs and affordable, quality health
care for associates and their families. This tentative agreement also keeps
Kroger competitive in this marketplace," said Bruce Macaulay, president of
Kroger's Columbus division.
Kroger, one of the nation's largest retail grocery chains, is
honored to celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2008. The Company's more than
320,000 associates serve customers in 2,474 supermarkets and
multi-department
stores in 31 states under two dozen local banners including Kroger, Ralphs,
Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Fry's, King Soopers, Smith's, Dillons, QFC and City
Market. Kroger associates also serve customers in 778 convenience
stores, 392 fine jewelry stores and 723 supermarket fuel centers the Company
operates. The Company also operates 41 food processing plants in the U.S.
